Common Reasons to Resize a PDF
Convert between page formats
Switch between A4, Letter, Legal, and other page sizes. Ensure documents display and print correctly regardless of regional paper standards.
Prepare for printing
Resize PDF pages to match your printer's paper size before printing. Avoid cut-off content, misaligned margins, and unexpected scaling.
Standardize page sizes
When a PDF has mixed page sizes from different sources, resize all pages to a uniform size for a professional, consistent result.
Downscale for screens
Resize large-format PDFs (A0, A1, A2) to A4 or Letter for comfortable on-screen reading and email sharing.
Meet submission requirements
Resize PDFs to exact dimensions required by journals, government agencies, or online portals. Avoid rejection due to non-standard page sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I resize a PDF online?
Upload your PDF, select a target page size (like A4 or Letter) or enter custom dimensions, choose a content scaling mode, and click "Resize PDF." Your resized file downloads in seconds — no server upload needed.
What is the difference between resize and crop?
Resize changes the actual page dimensions (the MediaBox) and scales or repositions content to fit the new size. Crop sets a visible area (CropBox) that hides margins without changing the underlying page dimensions. Use resize when you need a different page size; use crop when you want to trim edges.
What does "Fit to Page" do?
Fit to Page scales your content proportionally so the entire original page fits within the new dimensions. If the aspect ratios differ, there may be white margins on two sides — but no content is lost or cropped.
What does "Center (No Scale)" do?
Center places the original content at its original size in the center of the new page. If the new page is larger, you'll see margins around the content. If it's smaller, content outside the new page boundaries will be clipped.
What does "Fill Page" do?
Fill Page scales content so it completely covers the new page dimensions. If aspect ratios differ, some content near the edges may extend beyond the page boundary and be clipped.
Will resizing affect text quality?
No. PDF text is stored as vector data, so it scales perfectly to any size without pixelation. Embedded images may show slight quality changes when scaled up significantly.
Is it safe to resize PDFs online?
With NeatPDF, yes — your files never leave your device. The tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Check your browser's network tab: zero file uploads occur.
Can I resize to a custom page size?
Yes! Click "Custom" and enter your desired width and height in millimeters, inches, centimeters, or points. You can create any page size you need.
Can I add margins when resizing?
Yes. Set top, right, bottom, and left margins in your chosen unit. Margins are within the target page size — for example, A4 with 10 mm margins means the page stays A4 but content is inset 10 mm from each edge.
Can I resize only specific pages?
Yes. Switch from "All pages" to "Custom range" and enter a From and To page number. Only those pages will be resized — the rest pass through unchanged.
